UNDER 8 LIONS ARE A ROARING SUCCESS IN THEIR FIRST GAME

Our Under 8 Lions enjoyed their first ever league game today at Temple Park running out 2-0 winners. It was hard to believe that this was their first league game together and they all put in top class performances. In the first half Chester went close with Jake O’Shaughnessy and James Oliver both having chances. The deadlock was eventually broken when goalkeeper McKenzie Wilkinson with one of his long kicks put George McDonald clear on the right. George raced into the penalty area before hammering the ball into the roof of the net for one of the best goals we are likely to see this season. Chester didn’t have it all their own way but Gabriel Eccleston having  a tremendous game at the back showing great composure on the ball and McKenzie Wilkinson having a great game in goal kept them at bay. George McDonald made it 2-0 before half time with another great finish.

In the second half Chester pushed on looking for a third hitting the post three times and denied by some good goalkeeping. Leon Rose, McKenzie Wilkinson and Jake O’Shaughnessy all went close on a number of occasions and Leon almost got the goal he deserved when he got on the end of a great cross by George McDonald only to see his shot go narrowly wide. The opposition did break clear on two or three occasions but were thwarted by great defending by James Oliver and Fionn Donnelly and some great saves by Gabriel Eccleston.

The man of the match award could have gone to any of the boys but for his two goals and a great all round performance it went to George McDonald.
