This was the first time that our Under 8 Lions and Whites had ever met in a league game. It was a even start to the game with chances at both ends. Then we had a mad two minutes when the Whites were awarded a penalty. James Carr stepped up to take the kick and it looked to be going in but the ball struck the post and rolled along the line when keeper George McDonald grabbed it. George then kicked the ball upfield where MacKenzie Wilkinson broke clear and scored to put the Lions ahead.
The Whites didn’t let their heads go down and set about looking for an equaliser. It came from Finley Benek who broke clear to beat the keeper with a great finish.
In the second half both teams went looking for a winner with chances coming at both ends. Jake O’Shaughnessy went very close with a left shot and the whites went close at the other end. With the game looking like ending in a draw Finley Benek forced his way into the box to score a great goal. Final Score 2-1 to the Whites.
The Lions gave it their all today and on another day they could have won it. They found the high intensity style of the Whites game difficult to cope with at times but they never stopped trying. McKenzie , Oliver, James and Jake all had chances and , Leon, Fionn, Gabrial and George all worked tirelessly with George pulling off some great saves whilst in goal.
This was a deserved win for the whites whose non stop running and tackling made them difficult to play against. The whole team of a Thomas Walton, Jacob Lisle, Joel-Mewes-Reed, James Carr, Will Jackson and Nicholas Twinn all turned in impressive performances but the man of the match award went to Finley Benek. Not only for his two goals but for his non stop running throughout the game.
Well done Whites.
