Second half goal fest leading to a well deserved win for Chester Town U10 whites

An Indian summers day saw pleasant conditions for the match today at Silksworth. A full squad was at today’s game , something that hasn’t been seen since July 2019!
James C made his return from injury, taking his place in goal, and Ashton came along to support the team.
The game started well with chances at both ends of the pitch, an especially unlucky attempt from Ben that just went wide. James C made some great saves and our attacking players made some great shots on goal. The first half saw chances by both teams and the feeling from the sidelines was that the teams were evenly matched. Half time came with deadlock yet to be broken.

It’s not clear what was said at the team talk at half time but the second half was a total different story……
The second half started pretty much the same as the first, with chances for both teams. Unfortunately for Chester Town, deadlock was broken soon in the second half with a goal from the opposition. The boys kept trying and their determination showed, but an unlucky pass from the opposition led to a second goal, giving a 2 goal deficit. Play continued with excellent team work and passing from Chester town and exceptional pitch coverage from all – our boys were unlucky not to hit the target. With 10 minutes to go, the final changes were made and you could tell that Chester town were determined to get something from the game. Exceptional passing between the boys set James O up to score after an Irish shot from than was deflected back into play. This was quickly followed by a brilliant second goal, once again a result of superb passing and then a brilliant finish from James O making the score line even once again within minutes! The boys’ determination was clear and you could tell that a draw was not enoughand they were going for the win! Brilliant footwork and super passing set Finley up to score giving Chester town the lead for the first time, with around 8 minutes to go. A simple defensive mistake in our half of the pitch saw the opposition claw one goal back making the score line level once again, with minutes left on the clock. Tension was rising and the last thing Chester town wanted was to lose after all of the effort all boys had put in. A break from Chester town saw another great team work performance, which ended with Finley finding the back of the net, giving Chester town the lead once again. All Chester town needed to do was hold on and they did. A well deserved win for the boys and a very enjoyable game to watch from the sidelines.

Olly and Thomas didn’t find the back of the net today, but both had important roles in setting up goals for Finley and James O. Joel and Nick played with passion, intercepting a lot of threats. Ben played a great role in today’s game and had a great chance to score in the first half. Will was solid and a calming influence at the back. And lastly, it was great to have James C back as our last line of defence. Over all a great team performance. The opinion of the coach was that the last 10 minutes were probably the best spell of football this year.
