Chester U8 Lions played the last game before the summer break hoping to make it 5 wins out of 5. They had a dream start when James Oliver broke down the right and squared the ball across for Gabriel Eccleston to beat the keeper and put the Lions ahead. Just before half time Chester went two up when a cross into the box was bundled home by James Oliver.
In the second half Chester conceded a goal but almost immediately hit back to restore their two goal cushions thanks to Jake O’Shaughessy. Chester then extended their lead when McKenzie Wilkinson struck a great free kick into the top corner and Jake O’Shaughnessy got his second to make it 5-1. George McDonald for once was not amongst the goals but had a strong game in midfield. The opposition began to get more into the game and Fionn Donnelly was called upon on a number of occasions to make some crucial tackles. ┬áThese tackles seemed to calm his dad down a little much to the relief of his fellow spectators.Eventually however the opposition pulled one back but only for McKenzie Wilkinson to fire home to make it 6-2. Chester were then awarded a penalty which was taken by Leon Rose. Leon struck it well and although the keeper made a great save the ball ran loose and Leon was on hand to fire it home. The game was then held up for a few minutes while Leon celebrated.
With the game almost over Jake O’Shaughnessy fired in a great shot into the roof of the net to complete his hat trick and make the final score 8-2 to the Lions.
Man of the match today was awarded to McKenzie Wilkinson.
Well done boys, a great start to the season
