Chester le Street U10 Whites played two games this weekend and came out of both smiling with two great wins and two great performances.
On Saturday the boys put on a show, passing the ball about the way the coaches have been asking for years!
The games opening goal goal came through Ben Cummings who was on hand to turn Dan Watkins cross-come shot into the back of the net.
Ben swiftly followed that with a neat backfoot finish from a high looped ball from Joshua Ruggles to make it 2 – 0.
Just before half-tiime the whites conceded despite Ali Jackson pulling off a fine one handed save only for the ball to fall kindly to the oppostion striker – 2 – 1 half time.
Second half the lads kept up the tempo, the passing levels, and moving the opposition around nicely. Depsite all the passing and moving that was on show it was a Charlie Gamble free kick that would settle the tie. He won the free kick, picked him self up and smashed it into the back of the net for 3 – 1. A thoroughly deserved goal.
It really was a great performance by the boys, and their smiling faces at the end of the game meant they knew it. Some really nice praise from the referee, the opposition coach and one of the other teams parents testament to just how well we played…Roll on Sunday…
With only 7 players available it looked like a tough ask for Ali, Alex, Joshua, Dan, Ben, Charlie & Logan but boy did they rise to it!!
Within 2 minutes of the kick off Charlie Gamble had put the whites 1 – 0 up with a good finish that whistled past the oppostion keeper. 2 minutes laters he made it 2 – 0 with a nice finish from an acute angle.
He soon had the hat-trick in the bag with a beautiful finish and was grinning from ear to ear and rightly so. The boys had worked hard and throughly deserved the lead.
Ben Cumming was next to get in on the act. He made it 4 – 0 with a close range finish, before making to 5 – 0 with nice run inside which unleashed a low right foot shot past the keeper.
Logan Newton soon made it 6 – 0, a nice through ball allowed logan to turn and fire it past the keeper.
Next up was Charlie Gamble who bagged his 4 of the day (and 5th of the weekend) with another free kick.
7 – 0 and the ref blew for halftime!
To challenge the players the coaches moved everyone round, playing the lads in different positions that they dont normally play. It did challenge the lads but Ben Cummings managed to score another with a tidy finish that meant he bagged his hattrick and 5th of the weekend!
It finished up 8 – 5 and huge credit to the lads for the level of performance all weekend, they we exceptional. The maturity was good to see with several players offering to play other positions to help the team out.
