Chester le Street Town U13’s finished off the season with a trip to Bowburn and deservedly came away with draw. Maybe unlucky not to win!.
Match conditions weren’t great with heavy rain at times, but this didn’t stop the Chester lads putting in a ‘gutsy’ performance against team a lot higher than them in the league, and a team who beat them with ease in the reverse fixture.
Chester le Street started on the front foot with the pacey duo of Billy Hamilton and Adam Gardner causing the home defence problems on this big, spacious pitch.
The lads deservedly took the lead when top scorer Billy Hamilton fired home with a typical clinical finish. Bowburn managed to find themselves an equaliser, slightly against the run of play, but Billy Hamilton quickly fired Chester back in front to give the lads a 2-1 lead. Chester le Street could have added to this tally, but the home keeper was in fine form with some impressive saves in the first half and throughout the game. Chester looked like they were heading into half time with a narrow lead, but Bowburn struck just before the break the ensure the game was level at half time 2-2.
Into the second half, the lads kept their energy levels up with good pressing play from the defence and the midfielders also working hard to win the ball back. Their efforts were rewarded when Chester took the lead for the third time in the game, Billy Hamilton completing his hattrick to give his side a 3-2 lead.
Into the final stages of the game, Bowburn began to look dangerous and took advantage of the extra subs available to them, they raced into a 4-3 lead with two quick goals, this seemed very harsh on the lads.
However their heads didn’t drop as they searched for an equaliser, this deservedly came when Dylan Bruce beat the offside trap to calmly fire home despite claims of offside from the home defence.
A very good display ensured the lads took a share of the points. Final score 4-4
