The World Cup Monk Wear mouth 2018
The hordes gathered for this fantastic event, complete with replica Jules Rimet and medals to boot.
Chester Town under 8s started slowly in the 1st match….
We faced an uphill battle literally as the long grassed pitch was a new environment for the young gladiators, added to that the strong wind pinned us back.
We were soundly beaten and looked shell shocked coming off the pitch.
Our 2nd game began with a more positive start with a Lincoln Borthwick howitzer shot and Adam Abdullah sliding like ‘Babe Ruth’ into 4th base 1-0!
We were pinned back to 1-1 with a quick counter attack.
Unfortunately we fell Asleep as the opposition’s corner flew into the Goal
And narrowly lost 2-1.
Our 3rd game started with some strong pressure from the opposition, we were taken by surprise and 1-0 down before we could say
Boo to a goose!
Then a piece of Kai Duffy magic
Carved out a goal of finesse as he ran arms out stretched like the old Ronaldo scoring at the Bernabeu… 1-1.
Lincoln Borthwick Then realised he quite fancied being on the front pages tomorrow morning and slotted
We ran out 2-1 winners!
We caught our breath…
But the Knock out game raised its ugly head And within minutes we were prepping for battle
Within seconds our usual 1-0 down scenario had become reality again….
Ben Sharp was ready to deliver as he smashed a shot towards goal and The Young Borthwick finished with aplomb
The little man with a big engine
Aka Harry Holmes picked up the ball on the left half way line and made a brilliant diagonal penetrating run,
think Aguero v QPR to win the Premiership….
15 yards out- bottom corner bullet shot!
James Sharp Hoovered up anything dangerous and kept us moving forward, always in position and reliable that lad.
The Young Borthwick again took the game by the ‘scruff’ and walloped a
pile driver into the onion bag and 3-1..
Dramatically Pegged back to 3-2 and a nervy finish Ensued… resilience par excellence and we progressed to the next round.
Play off.no.2 match beckoned…..
Freddie Barron full of confidence started the game in top gear pummelling the ball into the goal after great midfield work from Harry Holmes and 1-0…
Again the young Borthwick took his chance with ease and 2-0…
Kai Duffy went on to slot from close range and 3-0…. this footy stuff is easy I foolishly thought.🤔

Play off no.3 semi final v Birtley
We were spent after the drama of the Quarter Final penalties and battled hard against a strong resilient team, but they proved too good for us…
3-0 final score….
Unfortunately we had a nasty pre-match injury to Adam Abdullah who is now healing at home with a very sore broken elbow, get well soon Adam.
