U9 WHITES TO HOT TO HANDLE

A full squad was available for the match today. We had Jacob Lisle starting in goal with Thomas Walton and Joel Mews Reed at the back. Anchoring midfield was Ashton Hui with James Carr in the midfield role and our customary wingers Nick Twinn and Finley Benek. 5 minutes gone on this chilly autumn day saw us 2-0 down. No mistakes, no bad bounces, our goalie wasn’t at fault either, just two very well hit strikes that found the net. Many teams would have folded with such a start. We dug in and tried to keep the game in reach but many on the sidelines thought it might be one of those days to forget. 12 minutes in, time to rotate a few players. Ollie Loan and Will Jackson came on in defence and are starting to look pretty formidable, both as defenders but even more so at starting attacks. Will continued a very impressive form into this match, breaking up attacks and dribbling down the pitch but Ollie was unplayable at times, rampaging down the wing from full back position and with Nick launching crosses from the same side and assisting attacks. James made way for Ben in midfield and our first telling chance opened up from a long through ball that Finley turned and ran with. Only a superb save from a goal bound shot kept him out. One minute later Nick ran on to a loose ball near the half way line and took a few strides before blasting from range into the top corner. Even at 2-1 up you could feel the game had changed so when Nick picked up another ball far out it was no surprise when he levelled the match with another stunning strike. The opposition looked in shock and before they could recover Finely had us in front with a fine finish. 3-2, half-time, game over? No chance. Just look at the coaches greying hair, can’t we have a nice easy game for a change? Thomas back on up front, Ashton doing his N’Golo Kante in midfield, Jacob now playing out with Joel in the sticks and Ben and James rotating in attacking midfield role. Again, no errors, no bad luck just a decent attacking chance finds its way into our net, 3-3. Again. In the same way Nicks goals changed the first half it was probably Ollie’s powerful running that swung the game back in our direction as he ran the length of the pitch then booted the ball straight past their keeper. 4-3 and in all honesty we then ran away with the match. Another goal to Finley, one to each of Thomas, James and Ben and shots saved and cleared from Will, Jacob and Ashton saw the game finish 8-3. Great match to watch.
